The 2025 Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games brought thousands of athletes together for competition and community on June 7–8, and local fans had a reason to celebrate after standout performances from Taunton’s own. Ninth-grader Dexter Baylies-Grigoreas delivered a breakout performance in the pool, winning gold medals in both the 50-meter freestyle and the 50-meter backstroke.

Dexter’s success is a testament to hard work and dedication; as a freshman, he already has two state-level golds and the kind of competitive spirit that Special Olympics highlights year after year. Family, friends, and classmates packed the stands to cheer on competitors and celebrate performances across many events, and Dexter’s double-gold was a highlight for the Taunton community.

Beyond the medals, the Games offer athletes an invaluable opportunity to compete, connect, and build confidence. Dexter’s emergence is a reminder of the scale and the heart of the Special Olympics movement, developing athletes and communities together. Look for Dexter to be a name to watch in future events as he continues to build on a memorable summer showing.
