The Uxbridge Spartans dropped their second game of the young boys basketball season, falling 64-41 to Sutton after a decisive second-quarter run swung the contest. Uxbridge opened the season with a 63-32 season-opening win over Douglas, paced by Thatcher Sweeney’s 26 points and Krish Patel’s supporting 11. Last night’s matchup was competitive early; Sutton led 11-7 after one, but the Sammies outscored Uxbridge 23-6 in the second quarter to establish separation.
Thatcher Sweeney again produced for the Spartans, battling through defensive pressure and scoring in every quarter, but Uxbridge could not contain Sutton’s balanced attack nor stem the flow of open looks that fueled the Sammies big second stanza. By halftime, Sutton had a comfortable edge, and the Spartans never fully closed the gap in the second half despite better late-quarter execution.
Uxbridge is now 1-1 and will look to rebound on the road Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Whitinsville Christian. The Crusaders are 1-0 after a 64-52 season-opening victory over Bartlett and will present a different test. Uxbridge’s staff will emphasize consistency, ball security and defensive rotations in practice as the Spartans aim to return to the form that produced their season-opening dominance.
