The Uxbridge Spartans opened the playoffs with a convincing 28-12 victory over Blue Hills, a performance that highlighted both the Spartans’ explosiveness and balanced attack.
Uxbridge jumped out early on a 64-yard passing TD from Shea Paxton to Thatcher Sweeney to go up 7-0. The Spartans extended the lead in the second with a 92-yard TD rush by Camden LaChapelle and a 29-yard Paxton-to-Cody Veneziiano passing score. From that point, Uxbridge controlled the game and closed out the win.
Paxton finished with 153 yards passing and three TDs, LaChapelle rushed 16 times for 165 yards and a score, and Sweeney hauled in four catches for 121 yards and a TD. The offensive explosion, paired with timely defense, sent Uxbridge into the next round.
Uxbridge now draws a stiff test in No. 2 Amesbury on Friday at 6:30 PM. Amesbury (8-0) has been nearly untouchable this season, save for a tight 30-28 win over North Reading, and the Spartans will be the underdogs as they aim to keep their three-peat hopes alive. The Spartans will need their A-game to take down a monster in Amesbury.
