The Milford Scarlet Hawks boys’ volleyball squad got back into the win column with a gritty 3–2 victory over the Greater New Bedford RVT Bears last night. After falling 1–3 to powerhouse Newton North, currently ranked second in Division 1, the Scarlet Hawks (10–6) needed a confidence boost. Facing a solid New Bedford team, Milford fought through long rallies, displaying improved serve-receive and opportunistic net play to secure the win. This season has been a roller-coaster stretch for Milford: since April 29th, the Scarlet Hawks have gone 1–4 against some of the state’s elite programs, including Lexington and Agawam (the top D2 squad), as well as the Tigers. Their lone victory in that stretch came against No. 51 Attleboro, underscoring the importance of capitalizing on matches against lower-ranked opponents to preserve their own standing. Key to last night’s success was a balanced effort from both the front row and backcourt. The team’s setters orchestrated effective offenses, while the defense improved its digging and transition game. With this win, Milford aims to rebuild momentum and reaffirm its place inside the top 32 rankings. Going forward, the Scarlet Hawks will look to combine this resilience with consistency in serve-pressure and blocking. Maintaining focus in every set—especially against teams further down the power chart, will be essential as they push toward postseason positioning.
