WRENTHAM — Youth basketball players have one last chance to register for the inaugural Rumble at Rice, a new 3-on-3 basketball tournament set to take over the Rice Recreation Complex on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Registration closes Friday, Aug. 7, with organizers encouraging teams to sign up before spots fill. The tournament is open to teams in three divisions: rising fifth and sixth graders, rising seventh and eighth graders, and rising ninth and tenth graders. The registration fee is $100 per team, with all proceeds benefiting King Philip Basketball Association (KPBA).
Championship teams in each division will receive prizes and tournament t-shirts, while every participant will have opportunities to win additional giveaways throughout the day.
The event will feature a free throw contest sponsored by Absolute Health Chiropractic and a 3-point contest sponsored by The Gavel Public House. Organizers have also lined up raffles featuring Celtics tickets, basketball camp vouchers, gift cards and certificates from local businesses, including Nicky’s, Café Assisi, Twin Shears, The Big Apple and Chipotle.
Families can also enjoy music throughout the day, concessions, and a visit from the C&C Ice Cream Truck, creating a fun, family-friendly atmosphere beyond the games on the court.
Community support has played a major role in bringing the tournament together. Court sponsorships have been provided by the Patrick Sullivan Family, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Evolution Properties, Omega Pizza Wrentham, and Sunshine Tomato Pizzeria.
The inaugural Rumble at Rice is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, with Sunday, Aug. 16, serving as the rain date.
With registration closing Friday, organizers encourage interested teams to sign up soon and be part of what they hope becomes a new annual basketball tradition in Wrentham.
