FRAMINGHAM — North County Post 193 held off a late Framingham rally Tuesday evening to earn a 4-3 victory in the opening game of a Massachusetts District 4 American Legion Baseball doubleheader.
North County wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the opening inning before adding another in the second to build an early 3-0 advantage. Framingham chipped away with two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth bringing the deficit to a single run, but North County would seal the deal with excellent pitching from Nick Lamey to record the save.
Will Gage turned in a stellar performance on the mound for North County, earning the victory after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out 11 batters while walking five, consistently working out of trouble to keep Framingham within reach.
Andrew Beauregard sparked the North County offense, reaching base three times with two hits, a walk, and an RBI. Sebastian Angel contributed an RBI despite not recording a hit, while starting pitcher Will Gage helped his own cause with an RBI. Steven Escano crossed the plate once, and Adam Adams added a hit as North County managed four runs on just one official RBI thanks to aggressive baserunning and timely execution.
Framingham collected seven hits in the loss, led by James Winders, who went 2-for-4. Michael Chagnon drove in two of Framingham’s three runs, while Jaxon Fertel added a hit and scored once. Joey Secatore reached base twice with a pair of walks.
Despite committing five errors defensively, Framingham battled back from a three-run deficit to tie the game before North County delivered the decisive run in its final at-bat.
The victory gave North County the opener of the District 4 twin bill, with Game 2 immediately following in Framingham.
