The Nipmuc Warriors baseball team delivered a statement victory Tuesday night, shutting out Sutton 10-0 in a performance that was both historic and much-needed. The Warriors had dropped five straight games heading into the matchup, and their backs were against the wall. But they responded in spectacular fashion, paced by standout offensive and pitching efforts. Gavin Metcalf went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Josh Giancola chipped in two hits and two RBIs to keep the offense moving. The team spread their scoring throughout the game, putting up runs in every inning but the fourth, and stole eight bases to keep Sutton’s defense on its heels. However, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly pitcher Dylan Muccini’s no-hitter. Muccini went five innings, recording six strikeouts and keeping the Sammie’s off the basepaths in one of the rarest feats in baseball at any level. Despite a couple of defensive errors, Nipmuc remained sharp and composed. The win gets them back to .500 and may be the turning point they’ve been seeking. The Warriors will now look to build momentum heading into Friday’s matchup against Framingham. With renewed confidence, Nipmuc is ready to climb back into contention.
