Apponequet entered the matchup at 8-0 and ranked 16th in the state, but Medway’s clutch hitting and solid defensive play spoiled the Lakers’ perfect mark. With runs plated in two separate innings, the Mustangs held the Lakers to a single run and forced the first blemish on an otherwise unblemished record. Riding the momentum of this tournament upset, Medway now travels to face the Westwood Wolverines on Monday at 4:15 PM. Westwood sits inside the state’s top 35 after a dominant 7-0 win over Fontbonne Academy. On the road at Westwood High School, the Mustangs will test their pitching depth and offensive resilience against a Wolverines squad eager to defend its home turf. A second straight upset would solidify Medway’s status as a serious tournament contender.
