MILFORD — Milford Legion Baseball will celebrate nearly a century of tradition on Saturday, July 11, as the program hosts its annual Alumni Night before its regular-season finale against Framingham Post 74 at 7 p.m. at Fino Field.
The evening will recognize former players from across generations while also honoring the 1966 Milford Legion team, one of the program’s most memorable squads.
For Alumni Liaison Dana Stoico, who played for Milford in 1976 and 1977, the event is about reconnecting former players while preserving a program built on community support.
“We ask the players to pay nothing in the town of Milford,” Stoico said. “I think that’s very unique. It’s all fundraising. We have tremendous sponsors, we work the gates and concession stands, and it costs about $50,000 to field the team for a year.”
Stoico hopes Alumni Night reminds current players of the tradition they represent.
“It’s about giving back,” he said. “It’s about sharing memories, the camaraderie with teammates, and the friendships that you make for a lifetime. You couldn’t trade those for anything.”
The ceremony will also celebrate the 1966 team, which Stoico remembers for the excitement it brought to the community.
“You’d go down to Fino Field and there’d be fans all the way down to the right-field fence,” he recalled. “The stands were full. The electricity and the buzz that it created—you’d have three, four, even five thousand fans at the games.”
Last year’s Alumni Night welcomed around 30 former players, and organizers hope for an even larger turnout this year.
The pregame ceremony begins before Milford takes on Framingham in the regular-season finale, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Fino Field. Former players, fans, and community members are invited to celebrate 97 years of Milford Legion Baseball.
