The Milford Scarlet Hawks boy’s volleyball team hit a rough patch this week, dropping two tightly contested matches to Taunton and Lexington. On Tuesday night, Milford fell to Taunton, a team they had previously swept 3-0 earlier in the season. This time, the Tigers got their revenge, winning the rematch in straight sets. Each set was competitive, but Taunton executed better in key moments to seal the sweep. On Wednesday night, Milford faced off against perennial powerhouse Lexington, entering the match looking to bounce back. The Scarlet Hawks came out strong, winning two of the first three sets and putting themselves in position for a huge road win. But Lexington, riding a 10-match win streak and sitting at 10-1 on the year, stormed back to win the fourth set and took control in the decisive fifth. Milford junior Danny Da Silva nearly swung the match with three straight kills to cut the deficit to 13-12, but the Minutemen closed it out 15-12. The two-game skid drops Milford to 8-4 overall, but their performances against top competition showed they’re still in the hunt. The Hawks now turn their focus to Agawam in another high-profile showdown later this week.
