The Medway Mustangs softball team came up just short in a wild 12–11 loss to North Attleboro yesterday afternoon. From the first pitch, the game was a back-and-forth slugfest. Medway jumped ahead 6–4 in the second inning behind timely hits and aggressive baserunning, seizing early momentum against a Rocketeers squad that entered with a 9–7 record and top-15 D2 billing. North Attleboro countered with a three-run third inning and held a narrow 10–9 lead through the fourth. The Rocketeers added two more in the fifth to stretch their advantage to 12–9. Unfazed, the Mustangs rallied by plating two runs to make it a 12–11 ballgame. Despite the valiant effort, Medway couldn’t push across the tying run before the final out. This hard-fought contest underscored Medway’s ability to battle with elite competition, even in defeat. The loss felt especially painful given how close the Mustangs came to toppling a higher-ranked opponent to rise in the rankings. Next up for Medway is a road test at Millis on Wednesday at 4 PM. With lessons learned from this roller-coaster game, the Mustangs will aim to rebound and refine their late-game execution heading toward postseason play.
