The Medway Mustangs moved on in the D3 tournament after a dramatic Round of 32 win over No. 19 McCann Tech in Franklin. Medway, the No. 14 seed, grabbed an early 3-1 lead after the first period thanks to a three-goal burst from Jason Drake. The Mustangs kept pressure in the second period as Michael Cortis and Silas Mandeville added goals to push the advantage to 5-2.
McCann Tech rallied in the third and temporarily tied the game at 5-5, but Medway answered when Jason Drake and Garret Consigli each found the net to reclaim the lead. Drake finished with four goals on the night in a postseason performance that will give the Mustangs confidence moving forward.
Medway advances to face the winner of No. 3 Dover-Sherborn and No. 30 Old Rochester, and Drake’s big night provides a clear offensive option as the Mustangs prepare for a tougher challenge in round two. The Mustangs will have to maintain their intensity throughout the match in round two, and will have to avoid giving up leads like they did against the Hornets if they want to advance.
