The Medfield Warriors used a balanced attack and timely special-teams work to advance past Wakefield Memorial in what was a competitive Round of 32 showdown. Medfield entered the postseason with a strong 16-4-0 regular-season record and the No. 3 seed, and that pedigree showed when the Warriors closed out a 5-2 victory after a tight middle frame.
The game tightened to 2-2 late in the second period when a Medfield power-play goal from Jack Blake gave the Warriors a momentum edge. Luke Dickson added a goal late in the second, and Matt Dickson pushed the lead in the third with another tally as Medfield applied steady pressure and converted chances when they mattered. Earlier in the opening round, the Warriors put up an 8-3 victory over North Middlesex, underscoring their depth and ability to score in waves.
Medfield now draws a dangerous Dracut team in round two tonight at 7:30 p.m. Dracut has been potent in its early playoff matches and presents a stern test for the Warriors. Medfield will rely on its depth scoring, special-teams discipline and the two-way play that produced several key goals in order to try to break through deeper into the bracket.
