The Boston Globe’s early Eastern Mass girls basketball power rankings put Medfield atop the list, a nod to the Warriors’ talent and last season’s success, and the defending D2 state champions backed up that billing in the season opener.

Medfield closed 2024–25 with an 18-2 record and dominated the D2 playoffs, culminating in a 62-20 title game win over South High Community School. The Warriors averaged 68.6 points per game in the postseason while allowing just 35.2 points across five playoff contests, numbers that helped convince the Globe’s voters to put Medfield at No. 1 despite the list debuting before the team had played this year.

On Tuesday night, the Warriors picked up right where they left off, throttling Norton 63-24 in the season opener. Naya Annigeri led the way with 19 points, and Abby Broderick added 18 as Medfield controlled tempo, rebounding, and transition offense. The Warriors will test their continuity tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Dover-Sherborn, a 1-0 Raiders squad looking to bounce back. With a loaded roster and the top billing in the Globe, Medfield arrives at the early-season slate both favored and firmly in the conversation to repeat as one of the region’s elite programs.
