Hudson Legion Baseball’s extraordinary tournament run came to an end last night after a string of high-stakes victories. Needing to win out just to make the semifinals after an opening 4–3 loss to Fall River, they rattled off three straight wins, including an 8–0 statement rematch shutout against Fall River.
Last night, Hudson faced Shrewsbury in a rematch of last year’s championship game. Despite entering as slight underdogs, Hudson greeted Shrewsbury with fierce effort. However, the defending finalists brought their A-game, handing Hudson an 8–0 defeat. Hudson’s pitching corps, having logged heavy innings over the previous four games, ran out of fresh arms, while Shrewsbury’s lineup capitalized on every mistake.
Offensively, Hudson’s bats, which had fueled their earlier comeback, were held scoreless. Defensively, the fielders made routine plays but couldn’t stem the tide of Shrewsbury rallies. Despite the lopsided final score, Hudson can take immense pride: back-to-back top-three finishes in Massachusetts Legion signify an elite program.
With several key contributors aging out, Hudson will lean on rising talent next summer. The core that battled through a near-impossible path this year sets a standard of resilience. As the team resets, they’ll aim not just to qualify, but to capture the elusive title and avenge this year’s narrow semifinal exit.
