Hopkinton’s Slide Continues; Hillers Seek Answers

The Hopkinton Hillers boys’ soccer team opened the year hot, going 5-1-1 through their first seven matches, but recent form has stalled. Over the last three outings, the Hillers have gone 0-2-1, including a lopsided 7-1 loss to Medfield and a tight 1-0 defeat to King Philip. Those results left Hopkinton searching for rhythm and finishing punch.

Yesterday’s meeting with Dover-Sherborn proved another step in the wrong direction. The Raiders, who entered the match with a 6-3 mark, controlled their chances and left with a 2-0 victory. Hopkinton struggled to create clear looks in the attacking third and paid for missed opportunities against an opponent that pressured effectively.

The Hillers now sit at 5-4-2 and face a quick turnaround with Medway visiting tomorrow. The Mustangs have had a rough campaign at 1-9-1, which presents a runway Hopkinton desperately needs: an opportunity to regain confidence, reinstate attacking patterns, and snap the four-game winless stretch. Coaching staff will emphasize finishing, transition speed and defensive compactness this week. If Hopkinton can clean up the final ball and get the attack clicking, this matchup against a struggling Medway side could be the reset they need.
