Hopkinton’s Hillers are in the weight room and on the practice field, determined to rebound after a 2–10 campaign and restore the program’s recent standard of competitiveness. Two years ago, Hopkinton posted an 8–3 record; since then, the team’s endured back-to-back losing seasons and now aims for an immediate course correction. Coaches are emphasizing fundamentals, pad level, tackling, and situational football, while younger players are being challenged to step into bigger roles.
The Hillers’ preseason schedule gives them a chance to tune up against quality opposition. After a warm-up against Goffstown High, Hopkinton opens the regular season on Friday, September 5, at Chicopee Comp, followed by a tough Week Two test at Wayland. Those early contests will be barometers for the team’s offseason work and player development. If the Hillers can control the line of scrimmage, limit turnovers, and shorten opponents’ possessions, they’ll give themselves a chance to win close games.
With several positional battles still unresolved, the summer grind is all about setting habits that translate to late-season wins. Hopkinton’s path back to contention will rely on steady improvement, young players maturing quickly, and the squad converting offseason reps into consistent game-day execution.
