The Hopedale Blue Raiders baseball team saw their playoff run end in the state semifinals at Westfield State University, falling to top-seeded Pioneer Valley Regional. The Panthers entered the matchup with a perfect 20-0 record and showed why they’re considered one of the strongest teams in Massachusetts. Though Hopedale came out swinging with an early 1-0 lead after a Nolan Murray RBI, the game quickly turned. Pioneer Valley’s offense ignited in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring four and six runs, respectively, to take full control. The game ended in a 12-2 loss for Hopedale, as Panthers ace Ethan Quinn stifled the Blue Raiders’ lineup for most of the game. Hopedale had looked sharp throughout the playoffs, making their way to the final four, but ran into a juggernaut. Despite the tough ending, the Blue Raiders should hold their heads high. They were one of the last teams standing in Division 5 and made it farther than most programs in the state. With several underclassmen making key contributions, Hopedale now has a strong foundation for future seasons.
