In a pivotal late-season match, the Hopkinton Hillers girls’ golf team defeated Wachusett Regional 31–17 yesterday on their home course. This victory marked Hopkinton’s second straight win, after an 18–12 triumph over Nashoba Regional, and gave the Hillers a 7–3 record. Early in the season, they suffered two close defeats to Bishop Feehan (22.5–31.5 and 2–4), underscoring the narrow margins that separate sectional contenders. Against Wachusett, Hopkinton’s balanced lineup shone. Upperclassmen Emily Watson and Leah Hong posted low scores that outpaced the Mountaineers’ top performers. The team’s consistency, with all varsity players contributing, frustrated Wachusett’s attempt at a comeback and highlighted Hopkinton’s depth. Up next, the Hillers travel to Quabbin for a 3 PM tee time Monday. Another strong performance on Quabbin’s challenging course could secure a playoff berth and boost sectional seeding. With veteran leadership and emerging talent, Hopkinton is poised to finish the regular season on a high note and make noise in the playoffs.
