WORCESTER — Milford Post 59 continued its strong summer campaign Thursday evening, putting together another complete performance in a 12-2 victory over Main South Post 341 behind a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching.
One of the night’s biggest storylines came from Gavin Metcalf, who made his first start of the season after nursing an injury to start the season. The designated hitter made an immediate impact, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored, helping lead Milford’s 12-hit offensive outburst.
Milford opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning before adding three more in the third. Main South got on the board in the fourth, but Post 59 answered with single runs in the fifth and sixth before putting the game away with two more in the seventh.
Nick Pedroli turned in another standout performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs, two walks, and a run scored. Brayden Lewis collected three hits, drove in a run, scored twice, and stole a base, while Sean Burchard chipped in with two hits. Milford also showed excellent plate discipline, drawing 11 walks.
On the mound, Cole McGovern was outstanding, striking out 10 batters while allowing just one run on two hits over five innings to earn the victory. Josh Bouchard tossed 1.2 innings in relief before Ben Maiorano recorded the final out.
Main South managed just four hits, with Chase Eggen recording two and Cam Fenner driving in the club’s lone RBI.
The win brought Milford’s record to 16-3 this season. The game was just the first of a doubleheader, with the second game being played against Vernon Hill later in the evening.
