Franklin’s Win Streak Ends at Eight

Franklin Legion Baseball was the talk of the summer league thanks to an eight–game win streak that spanned two weeks and lifted them from .400 to the cusp of the top playoff seeds. The streak peaked with a 6–0 shutout of Natick, an outing defined by Cameron Hasenfus’s complete–game masterpiece: seven innings, 11 strikeouts, and only two hits allowed. At the plate, Jack Sullivan went 2 for 3, while Zach Winer and Luke Douglas each drove in runs to seal the victory.

That night, Franklin’s run prevention and balanced offense looked unstoppable. But yesterday, Medfield provided a sobering reminder that momentum can shift in an instant. In a surprising 10–1 loss, Franklin’s pitching staff was tagged for double–digit runs for the first time all season, and the lineup managed just one run with two hits from Winer. Despite Winer’s effort, the Panthers never recovered.

Now sitting at 8–4, Franklin must regroup quickly. Tomorrow brings a crucial doubleheader: Hyde Park at 5 PM, followed by Sharon at 7 PM. Success in those games could clinch a top–three seed and reset their confidence heading into the postseason. If Franklin’s hitters and staff can rediscover the form that fueled their streak, they’ll be right back in the mix.
