FRANKLIN, MASS. — Franklin Post 75 continued its dominant start to the American Legion season Wednesday night, defeating Weymouth Post 79 by a score of 5-0 to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the year.

The offense wasted little time getting started, erupting for all five of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Franklin capitalized on early opportunities and received key extra-base hits from catcher Joe Goguen and designated hitter Zach Winer, who each delivered doubles during the decisive frame.

With an early lead in hand, Franklin turned the game over to its pitching staff, which once again proved to be one of the team’s greatest strengths.

Starting pitcher DJ Silverstein was outstanding on the mound, working 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters. Silverstein kept Weymouth hitters off balance throughout the evening and never allowed the visitors to mount a serious threat.

After Silverstein exited with two outs in the seventh inning, Cal McKenna entered in relief and recorded the final out to complete the shutout.

The victory continued what has been a remarkable opening stretch for Franklin. Through five games, Post 75 has outscored its opponents by an astonishing 68-3 margin, combining explosive offense with dominant pitching and defense.

With the win, Franklin remains undefeated and continues to establish itself as one of the strongest American Legion programs in the region. They look to continue their win streak tonight on the road against Morrisette Post 294.
