FRANKLIN — Franklin Post 75 used a late offensive surge and outstanding pitching to defeat Norwood Post 70, 8-0, in American Legion Baseball action Wednesday night.
After four scoreless innings, Franklin finally broke through with three runs in the fifth before adding four more in the sixth and another in the seventh to pull away for the shutout victory.
Henry George led the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, a triple, and a walk. Andrew Hosford also had a strong night at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple, while Patrick Luizzi collected two hits and drove in a run.
Owen Miller added a pair of hits and an RBI, Sean Kryzak knocked in a run, and Joe Goguen crossed the plate after drawing two walks as Franklin totaled 10 hits.
On the mound, Colin Mont delivered a dominant start, allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings while striking out 13. Ethan Edmunds closed out the game with two scoreless innings, surrendering one hit and striking out three to complete the three-hit shutout.
Norwood managed just three hits in the contest, with Benson, Willard, and Holtgren accounting for the offense. Franklin’s pitching staff struck out 16 batters while allowing just three walks.
The combination of timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and overpowering pitching helped Franklin improve its standing in District 5 play. Post 75 finished with four extra-base hits, including triples by George and Hosford, and committed just one error in a well-rounded performance.
