The Worcester Bravehearts suffered a rare lopsided loss on Sunday, falling 13–3 to the Westfield Starfires in a contest that saw both teams collect double–digit hits. Though Worcester notched 11 hits, they could only push across three runs, while Westfield turned 12 hits into 13 runs via timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.
This defeat snapped Worcester’s three–game win streak, which included back–to–back victories over the New Britain Bees and a previous win over Westfield. Even after the setback, Worcester maintains a league–best 29–11 record and has gone 8–2 over its last ten games.
Tonight, the Bravehearts return home to face the Bees at 6:30 PM, a rematch of recent successes. Afterward, Worcester hosts the Starfires again tomorrow, then the Silver Knights on Wednesday, and the Sea Unicorns on Thursday. After those games, Polar Park will welcome the FCBL Home Run Derby on July 21 and the All–Star Game on July 22. With the All–Star festivities and a padded lead atop the standings, the Bravehearts look to quickly erase this hiccup and stay on course for another championship push.
