WORCESTER — The road to the American Legion World Series begins today as eight state champions from across the Northeast converge on Fitton Field at the College of the Holy Cross for the 2026 American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional Tournament.
The tournament opens at 11 a.m. with Essex, Vermont taking on Cumberland, Rhode Island in the first game of the double-elimination bracket.
At 2 p.m., all eyes will be on Massachusetts State Champion Franklin Post 75, which enters the regional tournament with a perfect 22-0 record, as it squares off against another unbeaten powerhouse in Bedford, New Hampshire, which arrives at 21-0. The matchup features two undefeated state champions looking to take the first step toward a regional title and a berth in the American Legion World Series.
The opening day’s action concludes with the 6 p.m. nightcap as tournament host Shrewsbury Post 397 faces Sanford, Maine.
The Northeast Regional is being played in a double-elimination format, meaning a single loss will not end a team’s championship hopes. Instead, clubs will battle through the winners’ and elimination brackets over the next several days for the chance to claim the regional championship.
Play continues through Sunday, Aug. 9, with the tournament champion earning a trip to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina, next weekend.
With an undefeated season, a Massachusetts state championship and a talented roster led by State Tournament MVP Colin Mont, Franklin will look to continue its remarkable run as it opens regional play against one of the tournament’s toughest opponents in Bedford. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Fitton Field in Worcester.
