For nearly five decades, MYFM Media President and CEO Tom McAuliffe and his father have shared a cherished tradition: attending Boston Red Sox Opening Day together. This year marks their 49th consecutive trip to Fenway Park—a testament to their lifelong bond and love for the game.
The tradition began on April 6, 1973, when a five-year-old Tom joined his father for an Opening Day game against the Yankees. Through triumphs and challenges alike—including Tom Sr.’s courageous battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer in 1999—the duo has remained committed to this annual pilgrimage. Even during those tough times, they made it to the Fenway Park All-Star Game, reinforcing the importance of their shared experience.
A particularly unforgettable Opening Day came in 2005 when the Red Sox finally clinched the championship after an 86-year wait. Tom Jr. often reflects that these moments with his father are among the fondest memories of his life.
Now, as they prepare to face the Cardinals today, the McAuliffe’s are excited to witness a revamped Red Sox roster featuring exciting signings like Walker Buehler, Alex Bregman, and Garrett Crochet. With Buehler set to take the mound, they look forward to another memorable season at home.
