FRANKLIN – On January 19th, Santa Foundation Vice President Joe Formosa joined MyFM for an exclusive interview to reflect on the leadership and legacy of Elaine and Bob Sullivan following Elaine’s passing in December. During the conversation, Formosa discussed how the couple built the foundation from the ground up, who they were as people, and how the organization plans to move forward while honoring Bob and Elaine’s lasting legacy.
The Santa Foundation began 40 years ago with a simple act of kindness. At the time, Bob and Elaine were volunteering at the Franklin Food Pantry, which was located in their basement. During the holiday season, they asked how they could help families in need. Using their own money, the Sullivans purchased toys from local stores, dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus, and anonymously delivered gifts to children using Bob’s Cadillac.

Bob and Elaine were known for their deep commitment to the community and their belief in helping individuals directly, according to Formosa. He recalled working with Bob more than 28 years ago, describing how Bob had a way of connecting to people. Additionally, Bob focused on individuals helping individuals and often purchased gifts himself, organizing distribution lists and asking his staff to personally deliver presents to families in need.

Following Elaine’s passing, the community response was overwhelming. Her services saw a tremendous turnout, and the Santa Foundation received an outpouring of support through donations made in her honor via the organization’s website. Local police departments also continued their tradition of donating toys to the Santa Foundation’s warehouse, with the organization holding those gifts to distribute during the following holiday season.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Santa Foundation is focused on continued growth and organization. In 2025, the organization supported 860 families and strengthened partnerships with other nonprofit organizations. Plans for the coming year include a bowling fundraiser scheduled for March, along with ongoing efforts that take place year-round.
Those interested in staying connected with the Santa Foundation can follow the organization on Facebook at @The Santa Foundation or visit www.sfjoy.org, where visitors can find “Donate” and “Get Involved” options. In 2025, the foundation had the support of 250 volunteers across several projects and is continuing efforts to involve local schools in its mission, according to Formosa.
First responders are invited to pick up donated toys for children in need or those experiencing domestic violence from the Santa Foundation’s warehouse at any time. Toys are available for collection today at the organization’s facility, located at 275 Washington Street, Suite A6, in Franklin.
