MEDWAY – A piece of Medway Fire Department history is back home after undergoing a complete restoration.
Engine 1, a 1964 Maxim S, recently returned to Medway and was officially placed “in service” for the first time in 36 years.
The historic fire engine underwent a full restoration by Sturgis Hauling and Restoration, while Gregg Heger completed the truck’s gold-leaf lettering and striping. Specialty Vehicles provided additional finishing work to complete the project.
The Medway Fire Department also thanked retired department member Byron Vinton, who donated the truck back to the Town of Medway five years ago, making its restoration and return possible.
After decades away from service, the restored Engine 1 will once again serve as a reminder of the department’s history and the generations of Medway firefighters who served aboard its apparatus.
