HOPKINTON – From January 30th to February 1st, Enter Stage Left Theatre presents “Seussical JR” at the Hopkinton Center of the Arts, a youth group performance filled with laughs, catchy songs, and iconic Dr. Suess characters.

The show’s director, Alyssa Rae Surette, recently spoke with Tyler Lawton about the production process and the opportunities and benefits that Enter Stage Left Theatre and the Hopkinton Center for the Arts provide to young performers and the broader community.

  • As the director, what has your experience been like working with the kids to make this production the best it can be? With a production so large, it is important to make sure the vision for the show is communicated clearly with the actors. They have done an incredible job bringing this show to life with their talents, attention to detail, and willingness to try everything!
  • What has been the most rewarding part of working with the kids on this show? I think the most rewarding part has been seeing the actors find different ways to have their moment to shine! We talk a lot about having a clear point of view at all times on the stage. In the past few rehearsals, I have really gotten a chance to take a look around at each actor and it is so clear they have put a lot of time and effort into developing their character’s POV and showcasing that through their actions and facial expressions.
  • Can you describe Enter Stage Left Theatre and the opportunities or programs it offers? Enter Stage Left Theater (ESL) is the resident theater of the Hopkinton Center for the Arts. In addition to providing quality theater education for people of all ages, ESL produces up to 12 productions every year for a variety of ages. Each season brings a wide array of theater options to local MetroWest audiences looking for a great, affordable theater experience.
  • Why do you feel it’s important for members of the community to volunteer with or participate in the HCA? The HCA takes pride in keeping the arts accessible, inclusive, and alive! So much of that has to do with our amazing volunteers and program participants of all ages.  Their involvement helps sustain programs that encourage creativity, connection, and a strong sense of community.

Tickets can be bought under the “Events” tab of the HCA website, with performances on January 30th, January 31st, and February 1st.
