WORCESTER — First responders and community members will come together on Sunday, February 15, for a charity hockey event honoring the life and service of Officer Stephen LaPorta, with all proceeds benefiting his family.

The event is being organized through Pick-Up Pucks Hockey Inc., a nonprofit founded in 2023 to unite first responders and military members through hockey while raising funds for those in need. After Officer LaPorta’s passing, organizers quickly mobilized to create a benefit game that brings together multiple departments in a show of unity and support.

The day will feature two hockey matchups, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the Narcness Monsters facing off against the Worcester Fire Department. The Narcness Monsters are made up of law enforcement officers, firefighters, military veterans, and active-duty service members representing approximately 15 state and local agencies. The team has a history of competitive, high-energy games against Worcester Fire, promising an exciting contest for fans.

Admission to the event is a $5 suggested donation at the door, with all proceeds going directly to the LaPorta family to support them however they see fit. In addition to admission donations, attendees can take part in raffles, including prize raffles donated by local businesses and a 50/50 raffle. Winners will be announced during the games, with all raffle proceeds also benefiting the family.

A second game will take place at 3:00 p.m., featuring the Worcester Police Department against the Shrewsbury Police Department. Organizers say the matchup has generated strong excitement across both departments and is expected to draw a large crowd.

The event also includes a special fundraising partnership with Bay State Brewery, which will be selling beer featuring a custom memorial label created in honor of Officer LaPorta. Proceeds from those sales will go directly to the family, and the brewery will also be on site offering food and beverages.

Director of Marketing and Event Coordinator for Pick-Up Pucks Hockey, Kyle Cordaro, says the day is designed to be welcoming for everyone, not just hockey fans. Along with the games, attendees can expect a family-friendly atmosphere, food, raffles, and community activities, with the shared goal of honoring Officer LaPorta’s legacy and supporting his loved ones.

The charity hockey event will be held at the Worcester Ice Center, located at 112 Harding Street in Worcester. Doors open ahead of the 1:00 p.m. game, and community members are encouraged to attend, donate, and show their support.
