MASSACHUSETTS – A unique partnership is making a splash this summer as the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and Stop & Shop launch a campaign to support white shark research and conservation across Massachusetts.
As the 2026 research season gets underway, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy announced it will name the first newly identified great white shark of the season “Marty,” in honor of Stop & Shop’s iconic in-store robot. The naming recognizes the grocery chain’s renewed partnership and ongoing support of the conservancy’s research, education, and outreach efforts.
To celebrate, Stop & Shop will offer limited-edition White Shark Marty plush toys beginning June 22nd at all Massachusetts stores. Twenty percent of proceeds from each plush sold will be donated to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy to help fund its work.

The partnership also aims to promote shark safety awareness. In-store displays will encourage customers to download the conservancy’s Sharktivity app, which provides real-time shark sightings, safety information, and educational resources for beachgoers.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy encourages anyone visiting Cape Cod and the Islands this summer to practice safe swimming habits by paying attention to beach warnings, staying close to shore, and avoiding areas where seals are present.
Founded in 2013, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy supports scientific research, public education, and conservation efforts to better understand white sharks while promoting safe coexistence between people and marine wildlife.
