Mario attended the Milford school system and discovered his passion for wrestling at just 15 years old, when he participated in an exhibition match at Milford Town Hall. He went on to enjoy a professional wrestling career spanning more than 40 years, performing for the WWF and later independently throughout New England and California. Known for his personality, determination, and memorable presence in the ring, Mario was inducted into the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018.
Outside of wrestling, Mario worked as a carpet installer and in construction with Sabatinelli Construction. He later became an accomplished jewelry designer. He also served in the Massachusetts National Guard and was a devoted member of St. Denis Parish in Douglas. Mario enjoyed flea markets, thrifting, and searching for a good bargain.
He is survived by his sons, Robert C. Criasia and his wife, Lani, of Northbridge, and Richard M. Criasia and his wife, Heather, of Douglas; his daughter, Donna M. Spada of Hopedale; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mario was predeceased by his first wife, Marie “Goldie” (Berry) Criasia; his second wife, Barbara (Bruce) Criasia; his son, Mario “Sonny” Criasia; his parents, Michael and Rose (Galdorisi) Criasia; and two brothers and one sister.
Mario will be remembered as a friendly, hardworking, spirited, and talented man whose life touched many people both inside and outside the wrestling ring.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 9, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, located at 42 Congress Street in Milford, followed by a prayer service at 5:30 PM.
