Stephen F. Burberry, 100, of Uxbridge
1926 - 2026

Born in New York City on January 20th, 1926, Steve grew up in Oyster Bay and graduated from Oyster Bay High School on his 18th birthday. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the Navy’s V-12 College Training Program, studying at Harvard, Dartmouth, and Franklin & Marshall Colleges. He later earned a degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1949.

Steve married Marjorie Cook in 1948, and together they shared 68 years, raising two children and enjoying time with their five grandchildren. They loved singing in the church choir, traveling, skiing, sailing, tennis, theater, and spending time with their many lifelong friends. Steve was also a devoted dog lover and adopted five dogs throughout his life.

A business owner, Steve enjoyed developing personal relationships with his customers. He was also deeply committed to his community, serving more than 20 years on the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District Board of Education, as a member of the Vestry of Christ Church in Oyster Bay, and with the Lions Club and Matinecock Lodge. After retiring to Naples, Florida, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Naples Community Hospital.

Steve was known for his humor, optimism, honesty, and integrity. He was a lifelong learner and voracious reader who regularly visited the library. He treasured his friendships and had a particular love for dogs—often remembering a person’s dog even when he couldn't remember the person's name.

Steve is survived by his son, Doug, and daughter, Jackie; five grandchildren; and three of his four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Christ Church in Oyster Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve’s memory may be made to Hero Dogs, Inc., a nonprofit organization that breeds, raises, and trains service dogs for military veterans and first responders.
