1961 - 2026
Babe was born in Waltham on January 25, 1961, to the late Alfred A. Scafidi Sr. and Joyce (Dennis) Scafidi. He was a 1979 graduate of Waltham High School, where he met his wife, Catherine, during their junior year. Babe worked for many years at Embassy Trophy Company in Waltham and was most recently employed at FM Approvals in Norwood as a Senior Business Process Specialist.
A lifelong sports fan, Babe played baseball and basketball and coached baseball in the Nipper Maher and Connie Mack leagues. He was a diehard Celtics fan who attended games from a young age and even had the memorable experience of sitting on legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach’s lap when he was four years old. He also loved the Red Sox and was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Babe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Catherine A. (Corazzini) Scafidi; his sons, Timothy M. Scafidi and his wife, Jaleise, of Franklin, and Jeffrey R. Scafidi and his wife, Katie, of Blackstone; and his beloved grandchildren, Zoey and Brinley Scafidi. He also leaves his sister, Jacqueline Scafidi; his brothers, Stephen Scafidi and his wife, Joan, and Lawrence Scafidi and his wife, Jennie; several uncles, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Above all, Babe cherished time with his family. He never missed his granddaughters’ softball games or gymnastics events and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A wake will be held Thursday, October 8th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, located at 131 Main Street in Franklin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
