Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Ed was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Collins) Sullivan. He was raised and educated in Millville and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford with the Class of 1959.
Ed devoted his career to education, beginning as a teacher at Gibbons Middle School in Westborough and eventually retiring as Assistant Principal.
He was a longtime member of the Worcester County Model “A” Club, where he belonged for 30 years and served as secretary for 19 years. He was also a longtime member of the National Model Railroad Association.
Ed had a lifelong love of learning, travel, trains, cars, and airplanes. He enjoyed road trips with his wife, children, and grandchildren, traveling throughout the country and stopping along the way at museums, train shows, air shows, and car shows. He was also an avid woodworker, often working on multiple projects in his barn. One of his most meaningful projects was working on the family camp in China, Maine.
In addition to his wife, Helene, Ed is survived by his brothers, Thomas Sullivan and his wife, Linda, of Franklin, and Paul Sullivan and his wife, Mary Lou, of Hudson. He also leaves his children, Maureen A. Mann and her husband, Michael, of Gardner; Edward W. Sullivan and his wife, Susan, of Wisconsin; Daniel M. Sullivan and his wife, Miguelina, of Belchertown; and Erin M. Paolini and her husband, Jason, of Ashland.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Julia, Jadon, Meredith, Edward “Liam,” and Julia Sullivan, Nicholas Paolini and his wife, Madison, Cassandra, and Hailey Paolini.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 27th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, located at 62 West Main Street in Westborough.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 28th at 10:30 AM at the St. Luke the Evangelist Church, located at 70 West Main Street in Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
