1930 - 2026
Born in Milford on May 25th, 1930, Helena was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Thomas) Evans. She spent her entire life in Medway before moving to Franklin in 2023. She was a 1948 graduate of Medway High School and a 1952 graduate of Framingham State College.
Helena was a longtime teacher in the Millis and Medway school systems and continued working until retiring at age 77. She was active at St. Joseph Church in Medway and, in her younger years, was a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Helena enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, with her family especially fond of her potato salad. She loved playing cards and Mexican Train dominoes, but especially enjoyed trips to the casino. She and her husband also loved entertaining and surrounding themselves with family and friends.
Helena is survived by her children, Jane Peterson and her husband, David, of Hudson; Walter Wasnewsky and his wife, Ginger, of Medway; Thomas Wasnewsky and his wife, Nancy Lee, of Medway; James Wasnewsky of Medway; Mary Galosky and her husband, David, of Naples, Florida; and Leah Wasnewsky and her husband, Philip Forgione, of Medway. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Longo and her husband, Robert, of Medway, and sister-in-law Ann Evans of Franklin.
She leaves 11 grandchildren, David Peterson, Lindsey Anderson, Ryan Wasnewsky, Jill Pepin, Sarah Kolodenker, Sam Wasnewsky, Christopher Wasnewsky, Andrew Wasnewsky, Rachel MacDonald, Micaela Galosky and Matt Galosky; three step-grandchildren, Christine Parent, Elizabeth Whiting and Madeleine Verdolino; 14 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Helena was predeceased by her brother, George Evans, and her grandson, Joshua Wasnewsky.
Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Church in Medway. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 21st from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, located at 3 Barber Street in Medway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helena’s memory to Medway Friends of Elders, located at 76 Oakland Street in Medway.
