1950 - 2026
He was the devoted and beloved husband of Cheryl Arena, a proud and loving father to Matthew Arena and his wife, Lais, and Beth Baksi and her husband, Subir, and a doting grandfather to Alexander Baksi and Victoria Arena.
Born in Waltham in 1950, Robert’s family relocated to Natick when he was young. He was a graduate of Natick High School and Salem State College. He went on to build a fulfilling career in the food industry, a path that reflected his lifelong passion for the culinary arts. A gifted home chef with a refined palate, Robert took great pride in his cooking and loved sharing good food and warm hospitality with the people around him.
Outside of the kitchen, Bob enjoyed sports and staying active. He played candlepin bowling at Fairway Lanes, volleyball with F-Troop, tennis at the Charles River Tennis Club, and, in recent years, developed a fondness for pickleball. He also had a remarkable green thumb and looked forward to spring each year so he could fill his home with vibrant flowers. Saturday nights spent playing cards with friends, especially Karen and Charlie, were another cherished tradition.
Above all, Robert’s greatest joy was his life with Cheryl. Together, they shared a deep love of travel, particularly cruises, and held a special place in their hearts for North Conway, New Hampshire. During retirement, Robert enjoyed hiking there and spending time with close friends and family.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Orazzio “Rus” Arena and Mary Ann Arena. He is survived by his sister, Louise M. Arena, in addition to his wife, children, grandchildren, and their extended family.
Remembered for his fun-loving spirit, warmth, and generous heart, Robert will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 21st at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the Mass General Brigham Alzheimer Research Center, MGB Development Office, located at 399 Revolution Drive, Suite 1330, in Somerville through Mass General Brigham.
