MEDWAY – The Medway Department of Public Works is reminding residents not to leave pet waste bags in the cemetery.
Officials say some people appear to believe they can toss green bags labeled as compostable into the woods. The DPW warns that pet waste can contain harmful pathogens and parasites that can contaminate soil and water and pose risks to people, wildlife and other animals.
Officials also point out that many compostable bags require specific processing conditions and do not immediately break down in the environment.
