1939 - 2026
Irene attended Grafton High School before continuing her education at Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State. Her studies reflected a passion that would remain central throughout her life: teaching, caring for children and serving her community.
For many years, Irene worked as a teacher and childcare coordinator at the Whitin Community Center. Her warmth, generosity and ability to connect with children and their families made her a beloved presence at the center. She also enthusiastically led its roller-skating program, creating a fun and welcoming environment for generations of children.
Irene's commitment to the Whitin Community Center extended beyond her daily work. She served on its Board of Trustees, sharing her experience and leadership to help guide an organization that meant so much to her. She also volunteered her time and talents throughout the community, consistently looking for opportunities to help others.
Above all, Irene was devoted to her family. She is survived by her son, Kevin R. Dumais and his wife, Christine, of Uxbridge; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her kindness and generosity were especially evident in the care and support she gave those closest to her.
Irene leaves a lasting legacy through the family she cherished, the children and families she served, and the community to which she devoted so much of her life.
