MEDWAY — Registration is now open for the Medway Amateur Basketball Association’s 2026-27 season, with recreational and competitive programs available for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
MABA’s Intramural Program, also known as “Saturday Hoops,” is open to students in grades K-8 and is designed to give players an opportunity to develop basketball fundamentals in a relaxed, recreational setting.
Kindergarten players will take part in five 75-minute sessions on select Saturdays, learning fundamentals including passing, shooting and dribbling while using 26.5-inch basketballs and 8-foot hoops.
For grades 1-3, weekly 75-minute sessions combine skill development with games designed to introduce and strengthen basic basketball knowledge. Players in grades 4-8 participate in 90-minute sessions featuring drills, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games and competitive scrimmages, with instruction progressing from beginner to more advanced skills as players develop.
MABA also offers a Travel Program for grades 3-8 for athletes interested in a more competitive experience against teams from other communities.
For grades 4-8, the travel program includes two 75-minute practices per week beginning in November, a preseason tournament or jamboree and a 12-game regular season in the MetroWest Basketball League. Games are typically played on Sundays beginning in December, followed by single-elimination playoffs.
Players in grades 5-8 will take part in tryouts and evaluations to determine roster placement based on skill level, including potential A and B teams. Fourth-grade players will also be evaluated, with teams balanced to create an even distribution of talent.
The third-grade travel program features approximately 10 games played 4-on-4 on 8-foot hoops, along with one weekly practice. Evaluations will take place during the first few weeks before players are divided into balanced teams. Third-grade travel is limited to 24 roster spots.
Intramural-only registration costs $100, while travel-only registration for grades 4-8 is $275. Families registering a player for both travel and intramural can pay $325, a $50 discount off the combined price. The third-grade travel program costs $225.
MABA has also established an $825 family registration fee cap for households registering multiple players.
The organization is encouraging families to register players for the appropriate grade level as preparations continue for another season of youth basketball in Medway.
