HOPEDALE – A Hopedale man is facing a second-offense OUI charge after police say a dog sitting on his lap distracted him while he was driving.
Hopedale Police say an officer conducting traffic enforcement on Hopedale Street Tuesday night spotted an SUV with a dog on the driver’s lap. Police say the dog was jumping up and down, obstructing the driver’s view and distracting him from the road.
Officers stopped the vehicle and say they detected a strong odor of alcohol while speaking with the driver, identified as Steven Dunlap. Police allege Dunlap failed portions of the field sobriety testing administered during the stop.
Dunlap was arrested and charged with second-offense Operating Under the Influence and Unsafe Operation.
