Diane Irene (Schmitt) McElvery, 71, of Westborough
1955 - 2026

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jonathan S. McElvery; her sister, Mimi Solaire of Phoenix, Arizona; and her brother, David Schmitt and his wife, Andrea, of Cornville, Arizona. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Diane always considered Pittsburgh home. She spent more than 46 years living in Massachusetts, including the last 38 years in Westborough.

Diane devoted 39 years of her professional life to caring for others as an operating room nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. She retired in 2019 after a long career marked by the same compassion and care that defined her life.

An exceptional runner, Diane loved being active and outdoors. Running, cycling, hiking, walking and gardening were among her favorite activities. Yoga was an important part of her life, and in more recent years she also enjoyed Jazzercise. She was committed to living a healthy and active lifestyle.

And no matter how many years she spent in Massachusetts, Diane never lost her Pittsburgh roots. The Pittsburgh Steelers remained an important part of who she was.

Diane will be remembered for her caring and compassionate nature and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Those wishing to honor Diane’s memory may make a donation to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
