SOUTHBOROUGH – Southborough will soon be looking for new leadership in the Town Clerk’s Office as longtime Town Clerk Jim Hegarty prepares to step down at the end of September.
Hegarty has served as Southborough’s Town Clerk since 2015. According to the Community Advocate, town officials plan to appoint an interim clerk by the time he leaves the position.
Hegarty has also proposed an article for the October Town Meeting that would change the Town Clerk’s position from an elected office to an appointed one. The change would allow the Select Board to establish qualifications for candidates seeking the position.
If Town Meeting approves the proposal, the person selected as interim clerk could potentially be appointed to remain in the position permanently.
