HOPEDALE – A Hopedale man is facing several charges after police say he assaulted an officer following his arrest for suspected drunk driving.
Police say officers from Hopedale and Mendon tracked Samuel Coleman to a home in Mendon after witnesses called 911 to report a vehicle allegedly traveling at speeds of more than 140 mph on Interstate 495.
Coleman was arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence and negligent operation and was taken to the Hopedale Police Department for booking.
Police allege Coleman became increasingly aggressive during the booking process and eventually spat on one of the officers, leading to an additional charge related to the alleged assault.
