James A. D’Arcangelo, 96, of Milford
1930 - 2026

Born in Milford, Jim was the son of the late Vincenzo and Antoinette (Tosches) D'Arcangelo. A proud graduate of Milford High School’s Class of 1947, he was the brother of Lucy D'Arcangelo, Nellie Coppolla, Jennie D'Arcangelo, and Leo D'Arcangelo.

Jim shared nearly 60 years with his wife, Barbara (Conroy) D'Arcangelo. He was the loving and immensely proud father of Anna May Feige and her husband, Tim; Diane D'Arcangelo; James D'Arcangelo Jr.; and Debra D'Arcangelo and her husband, Ed.

His family grew to include six grandchildren: Kevin Feige and his wife, Caitlin; Lauren (Feige) Keskinel; Matthew Feige and his wife, Katie Lynch-Feige; Alaina D'Arcangelo and her husband, Harrison Atkinson; James D'Arcangelo III and his fiancée, Samantha Harris; and Chase D'Arcangelo. Jim also took tremendous joy in his six great-grandchildren, Ella and Eric Feige, Ali and Leyla Keskinel, and Henry and Howard Feige.

Jim's early years were shaped by tremendous challenges. Born during the Great Depression and coming of age during World War II, he lost his father when he was just 12 years old. His mother, a first-generation immigrant who could not speak English, was left to lead the family. These experiences helped instill in Jim an extraordinary work ethic from an early age.

He began working at a Milford fruit store when he was 14 and continued working for more than 80 years, finally retiring from the U.S. Postal Service at the age of 94.

Service to his country was another defining part of Jim’s life. A 20-year United States Marine, he served during conflicts in Korea, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam. Following his military career, Jim spent 20 years working in systems engineering at Honeywell before beginning a 32-year career as an electronic technician with the U.S. Postal Service.

Throughout it all, Jim worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for his four children. He took particular pride in their education and accomplishments and often considered raising them to be his greatest achievement. His steadfast support gave his family a strong foundation throughout their lives.

Outside of work, Jim treasured time with his family and enjoyed sharing stories with friends, particularly his longtime colleagues at the Postal Service. In his younger years, he was an accomplished ballroom dancer. He also enjoyed tackling projects around the house and spending time with his beloved and mischievous dogs, Cleo and Iam.

Those who knew Jim will remember his strong sense of right and wrong, commitment to serving others, wry sense of humor, and unmistakable sweet tooth. He also enjoyed visiting local restaurants and valued the friendships he developed with their staffs over the years.

Above all, Jim will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and devotion to the people he loved. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
