Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Nicholas “Nick” A. and Elizabeth “Betty” S. (Jones) DiBuono. A graduate of Marian High School, where he played baseball, he went on to earn an associate degree in Arboriculture from Paul Smith’s College before completing a degree in Biology at Framingham State University.
Before raising his family, DiBuono worked for the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1968, he served a full tour with the 9th Infantry Division as a Radio Telephone Operator (RTO), earning the Bronze Star Medal along with several other commendations. Following his military service, he returned to the MDC, where he retired as a Forestry Superintendent.
Throughout his life, DiBuono remained deeply involved in his community. He taught CCD at St. Luke’s Church, served on the Westborough Conservation Commission, volunteered at Town Hall, and, until recently, was secretary of the Marlborough Fish and Game.
Known for his sense of humor, he enjoyed reading, hunting, backpacking the Appalachian Trail, woodworking, gunsmithing, bow making, and playing pitch with family and friends. He also coached youth baseball and hockey and spent years cheering on his sons and later his grandchildren at sporting events across New England and Eastern Canada.
He is survived by his brother, Nicholas “Nick” A. DiBuono of Marlborough; his sons, William R. DiBuono and his wife, Kristyn, of Londonderry, N.H., and Christopher N. DiBuono and his fiancée, Mandy Santagata, of Clinton, N.C.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his lifelong friend, Dr. Tim Lepore.
A public graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 8th at the Pine Grove Cemetery (106 South St in Westborough). There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
