MEDWAY – State agricultural officials have confirmed the presence of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly in Medway and are encouraging residents to learn how to identify the destructive insect.
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources has confirmed the nymph stage of the Spotted Lanternfly in town. While the insect poses no threat to people or pets because it does not bite or sting, it can cause significant damage to agriculture by feeding on maple trees, grapevines, hops, and other plants.
Residents can view identification guides and educational resources on the Town of Medway website or through the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources’ YouTube channel.
