1962 - 2026
Born in Buffalo, New York, Bob spent much of his childhood on Long Island, where he developed a lifelong love of music. As a member of his high school's marching band, he played the flugelhorn at venues including Disneyland and Studio 54. He later continued his musical journey by teaching himself to play the guitar. Bob attended State University of New York at Cobleskill and State University of New York at Plattsburgh. During his college years, he formed lifelong friendships while working summer seasons at Ferry Beach Retreat in Maine.
For the past 25 years, Bob worked as a video editor at WBZ-TV, where he took pride in his work and the relationships he built with colleagues. Outside of work, he was an avid photographer and passionate home chef who delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. Whether telling one of his memorable stories, hosting neighbors for poker nights, or sharing a meal he had lovingly prepared, Bob had an extraordinary gift for bringing joy to those around him.
In 1990, Bob met the love of his life, Lisa, on a blind date. Their relationship blossomed into nearly 36 years together, supporting one another through life's greatest joys and deepest sorrows. Bob's warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion made him a cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lisa (Morrissey) Root; his father, Robert W. Root and his wife, Anne, of New York; his siblings, Mark Root of Arizona, David Root of New York, and Allison Myer of New Jersey; his father- and mother-in-law, Thomas and MaryJane Morrissey of Auburn; his sister-in-law, Lynn Beauregard of Auburn; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friends from Ferry Beach.
He was predeceased by his son, Robert "Robbie" Root, in 2005; his mother, Georgeann; and his brother-in-law, David Beauregard.
