MILFORD — Franklin Post 75 will put its perfect season on the line Monday night when it faces Hyde Park Post 78 at 7 p.m. in the Massachusetts American Legion Baseball State Tournament at Fino Field.
Franklin enters the matchup with a 19-0 record after winning its first two games of the tournament. Post 75 opened state tournament play with a narrow 2-1 victory over host Milford Post 59 before breaking out offensively in a 13-1 win over Sandwich Post 188 on Day 2.
Hyde Park is also 2-0 over the course of the tournament, squeaking out nail-biting one-run wins over Greenfield and Leominster.
Monday’s game will finally bring together the two teams that were scheduled to compete for the District 6 championship. That game was never played because of inclement weather, and both Franklin and Hyde Park advanced to the state tournament regardless.
The matchup now carries major championship-bracket implications. The winner will remain on the advancing side of the double-elimination tournament and move on to face the winner of Beverly Post 331 and Sandwich.
The losing team will drop into the elimination bracket and play the winner of Monday afternoon’s matchup between Milford and Leominster. Milford and Leominster are scheduled to meet at 1 p.m., with the loser’s season coming to an end.
Franklin will look to continue its dominant run while Hyde Park attempts to hand Post 75 its first loss of the summer. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Fino Field in Milford.
