MILFORD — One week after battling for a district championship, Milford Post 59 and Leominster Post 151 will meet again with their seasons on the line during Day 3 of the Massachusetts American Legion Baseball State Tournament.
The familiar District 4 rivals are scheduled to play at 1 p.m. in an elimination game at Fino Field. The losing team will see its season come to an end, while the winner will remain alive in the double-elimination tournament and advance to another elimination game Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Milford defeated Leominster in an extra-inning thriller exactly one week ago to capture the district championship. The dramatic victory gave Milford the district title, while Leominster earned the runner-up spot and joined the host team in the eight-team state tournament.
Monday’s rematch carries even greater stakes, with neither team having any room for error. Both clubs are familiar with each other after competing three times throughout the District 4 season, setting the stage for another closely contested matchup.
The winner will return Tuesday to face the loser of Monday night’s game between Franklin Post 75 and Hyde Park Post 78. The two District 6 representatives are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing further in the championship bracket and the loser dropping into the elimination side.
First pitch between Milford and Leominster is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Fino Field in Milford.
